Rosh Hashannah

Rosh Hashannah means "The head of the year" the beginning of the civil year, of the Jewish calander. At Rosh hashanah the shofar (ram's horn) is blown, beginning and the10 Days of Repentance. These 10 days culminate with Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonment. Rosh Hashannah is commorated on the seventh month of the Jewish calendar (1st of Tishrei). It is a one day observance.

Lev. 23:23-25

Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on the first of the month, you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 'You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.'"

Num. 29:1-6

'Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets. 'And you shall offer a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to the LORD: one bull, one ram, and seven male lambs one year old without defect; also their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the ram, and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs. 'And offer one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you, besides the burnt offering of the new moon, and its grain offering, and the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their libations, according to their ordinance, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD.

The purpose of Rosh Hashannah is to prepare the Nation of Israel for the Day of Atonement.

In the future Messiah Yeshua will returns with the sound of a trumpet

1 Thess. 4:16

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the ttrumpet of G-d…" There will be a future Rosh Hashannahto prepare the nation of Israel. The final fulfillment of the Day of Attonement will occur when Messiah Yeshua returns to earth to regather and save the nation of Israel. He will apply the atonement of His sinless blood to the sins of the Jewish nation.

Rosh Hashonah

The Feasts of Trumpets tells us when we hear the sound of the shofar, we are to rejoice. We are to rejoice because we are reminded that in the past, when the shofar was sounded, G-d brought about great victories, even when times were difficult and circumstances looked bleak, In the past G-d had the His people sound the trumpet to defeat Their enemies.  The walls of Jerioch came down at the blast of the trumpet. .with Gideon when his band of 300 men defeated a great multitude of the enemy with only pitchers, torches and shofars.  We are encouraged reminded that G-d is our victor over your enemeies. We are to remember at this time of year that we should rejoice because God will bring us victory also.  G-d will gather His Jewish people back to the land of Israel for the future Messianic kingdom.

Isaiah 11: 11, 12
Then it will happen on that day that the Lord Will again recover the second time with His hand The remnant of His people, who will remain, From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, And from the islands of the sea. And He will lift up a standard for the nations, And will assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.

Isaiah 27: 12 ,13
And it will come about in that day, that the LORD will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel. It will come about also in that day that a great trumpet will be blown; and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Also at that time, when the shofar sounds, G-d will gather His believers to be with their Messiah in the clouds, and thus, be with Him forever. Another theme of Rosh Hashannah was that of repentance or return.  As our people reflect during the 10 Days of Awe, from Rosh Hashonah to Yom Kippur, we should also turn and make things right with G-d and man.  Whether we are believers or not, we are to turn to G-d.  If we have never accepted Yeshua, as our Messiah and Savior, we need to turn, believe, and put our trust in His sacrifice for us.  If we are believers, we are to turn, confess our sins to G-d and have a new restored relationship with Him.
